The DOs and DONTs of Compressed Air!!

Care and good judgement are the best protection against injury when using compressed air or air tools

DO

  • Familiarise yourself with any tool before using
  • Use appropriate safety equipment while using air tools or compressed air
  • Wear appropriate Protective clothing when using air tools
  • Disconnect tool from air supply before changing accessories or making repairs
  • Check tools, hoses and fittings for damage before use
  • Check work area for potential hazards before commencing work
  • Read any safety instructions provided with tool

DO NOT

  • Use any tool you are not familiar with
  • Use any tool with guards or retainers removed
  • Direct compressed air towards yourself or anyone else
  • Use incorrect size or speed wheel on grinding equipment 
  • Use hand sockets on impact tools
  • Use any compressor with guards removed
  • Carry out maintenance or repairs on compressors without first totally and securely isolating electricity supply and draining pressure from pressure vessels
  • Use any accessories (e.g. grinding wheels, backing pads, chisels, drills etc) if they are in any way defective
  • Allow children near you while using air tools or compressed air
  • Allow children to use air tools or compressed air
